Will Tang, straight outta Rochdale is massive over in Hong Kong and these two slices of prime troubadour blues are given the work-over treatment by Manchester Easy Listening Psychedelic and Twisted Nerve overlord Andy Votel. ‘Your Love Bites’ and ‘Travellin Man’ are married to such massive phat hip hop breaks that Will Tang becomes Wu-Tang and everyone beats the crap out of each other to dust down their blues on the dancefloor.
The former kicks off with a gargantuan funky drummer intro and treats the distorted narrative of bad love to all kinds of sonic trickery and dubbing out the vocal til it all hits a kick-ass crescendo when the original fleetingly drops into view. ‘Travellin Man’ fucks up the guitar, cutting and pasting acoustic fragments over a steady groove. It’s all pretty marvellous really and I guess Mr Tang may not need to do so much travelling abroad on the strength of what goes down here.
